Kufic Script Workshop

Developed between the 8th and 11th centuries (the earliest Qur’an manuscripts from the 8th century are written in Kufic), the Kufic script is considered one of the oldest forms of Arabic calligraphy. According to scholars, its name is derived from the southern Iraqi city of al-Kufa, the centre of mediaeval Arab learning and scholarship where the script was created.

ورشة تعليم الكتابة الخط الكوفي

تم تطوير الخط الكوفي بين القرنين الثامن والحادي عشر (تمت كتابة أقدم مخطوطات القرآن من القرن الثامن بالخط الكوفي) ، ويعتبر الخط الكوفي أحد أقدم أشكال الخط العربي ، ووفقًا للعلماء ، فإن اسمه مشتق من مدينة الكوفة  جنوب العراق،  التي كانت مركز التعليم والدراسات العربية في العصور الوسطى ، حيث تم إنشاء النص.

For a long time the Kufic script was used to record the manuscripts of the Qur'an. Then the script was used for  architectural decorations as inscriptions on buildings, and it has since become a reference and an archetype for a number of other Arabic scripts.

لفترة طويلة ، تم استخدام الخط الكوفي لتسجيل مخطوطات القرآن. ثم تم استخدام النص في الزخارف المعمارية كنقوش على المباني ، وأصبح منذ ذلك الحين مرجعًا ونموذجًا لعدد من الخطوط العربية الأخرى.

There are different variations of this fascinating script: after some time, flower Kufi flourished and several other variations of this script appeared, including foliate Kufi, woven or bound Kufi, bordered Kufi, and square Kufi. It fell out of use around the 12th century, although it continued to be used as a decorative feature to contrast with the scripts that eventually replaced it.

هناك تنوعات مختلفة في هذا الخط الرائع: بعدما بدأت زهرة الكوفي بالازدهار وظهرت العديد من الأشكال الأخرى لهذا الخط ، بما في ذلك الكوفي المرقق ، الكوفي المنسوج أو المربوط ، الكوفي المحدد والكوفي والمربع  لم يعد هذا النوع صالحا للاستخدام في القرن الثاني عشر تقريبًا ، على الرغم من استمرار استخدامه كخاصية زخرفية  وجمالية للتناقض مع النصوص التي حلت محله  في النهاية.

In this workshop students  will discover the splendours and affinity with principles that are present in the sacred art of calligraphy. They will explore and acquire basic knowledge on the types of scripts from Kufi.

In this workshop students will learn: 

• how to hold a writing tool
• how to create different lines
• how to connect lines to each other
• how to write words that have a basic defining meaning e.g.: your name

في هذه الورشة سيكتشف الطلاب الروعة والألفة مع المبادئ الموجودة في فن الخط المقدس، واستكشاف واكتساب المعرفة الأساسية حول أنواع الخط الكوفي.
