The Abaya is made with handwoven tussar silk by artisans in India. Each palm is hand painted using natural dye including madder and iron powder. 

Mashael Al Naimi, creator of Mhefhef, works with artisans to transform natural handwoven fabrics into one-of-a-kind canvases for textile art with hand-blocking, hand-painting, up-cycling and natural dyes.

Mhefhef introduced upcycled Abayas, handmade entirely from fabric waste that would have otherwise been in a landfill.

With the idea of “dressing healthy” Mashael developed the unconventional technique of permanent henna painting on fabric, which was featured in CR runway, the biggest fashion event.

Mashael spoke at TED in Arabic in 2023 about her journey in sustainable fashion.
